Thank you for your interest in working with me. I can work with UW students in a variety of programs. UW and Seattle are wonderful places to work and live, surrounded by lakes, the Puget Sound, and the Cascade and Olympic Mountains.
UW Evans School: I can advise PhD students in Public Policy and Management. The Evans School offers each admitted student a five-year financial support package, and the school admits 4-5 PhD students each year across the entire school. I also advise and hire Master of Public Administration students in the Evans School for research support. The Evans School is one of the top public policy schools in the U.S. and currently has the #2 ranked U.S. program in Environmental Policy and Management.
UW Civil and Environmental Engineering: Beginning in academic year 2025-26, I expect to be able to advise PhD and research-based masters students in UW CEE. My ability to take students (particularly PhDs) in CEE is dependent upon having sufficient funding in place to cover tuition, benefits, and stipend. My ability to support CEE students depends on securing competitive research grants, which can vary from year to year and makes it difficult to predict whether I can take on students—or how many. Accordingly, I also encourage prospective students to apply for graduate fellowships like the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, which offer greater flexibility and allow you to pursue a research project of your own design.
Other UW graduate programs: I sometimes have research funds that can support working with students in the School of Law, College of the Environment, Urban Design & Planning, and other relevant programs.
UW undergraduates: I work with UW undergraduates on research and have the ability to offer course credit (PUBPOL 498) to students who assist with research.
Postdoctoral fellows: I'm able to work with interested postdoctoral fellows through independent fellowship programs, such as the one offered by the Washington Research Foundation. At this time, I do not have other funding available to support postdoctoral positions.
If you are interested in working together, please email me with a description of your research interests, skills, and capabilities. For prospective graduate students or postdoctoral fellows, please also send me a CV and an undergraduate transcript (unofficial transcripts are fine).
